The 12th Biennalen de Lyon is curated by Gunnar Kvaran and opens in September. Today the more than 70 artists involved was announced.
According to a press release we´re living in «the age of storytelling» which is a subject the 12th Biennale de Lyon and curator Gunnar Kvaran (director of the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo, Norway) seeks to investigate. This investigation takes place in five exhibitions and through the works of more than 70 artists.
The press release states:
– All over the world, the search for stories, communication in story form, the development, sharing and viral transmission of new and newly-told stories are omnipresent. Stories explain the world to us and enable us to enter into new relationships with that world. What narrative forms, sources and patterns do the artists in this Biennale use in their praxis, and what stories do they tell in their works, which have emerged from studios located locally and in Asia, North and Latin America, Africa and Europe?
The Biennale de Lyon has this year been given the title Meanwhile… Suddenly, and Then and 77 artists from all over the world has been invited to «tell their visually striking, captivating and imaginative stories masterfully and in a unique plurality of forms and languages.»
Five venues, La Sucrière, macLyon, Fondation Bullukian, Saint-Just Church and La Chaufferie de l’Antiquaille, are hosting the main exhibition curated by Kvaran. But the the Biennale de Lyon spans over two more platforms, according to the press release. In addition to the main event the Biennale includes Veduta, a platform dedicated to amateur projects and which are creating a network of more that 40 houses, and Résonance, a platform for 200 projects around exhibitions, gigs and residencies in the Rhône-Alpes region.
